Great Customer Service

I now have over 6 years of experience in customer service and what I have learned during those years is that customer service is essentially the lifeblood of a business. Good customer service can give you an edge over competitors. A customer likes to feel welcome, they like to feel that they are getting a little extra for their money. A sincere greeting and a smile can go along way. It makes someone’s day better. Here are some tips that will keep your customers coming back.
1. Greet sincerely and a genuine smile – Be friendly even if you are having a bad day. Do not let your emotions get the better of you.
2. Listen to your customers – If they have a problem with a product listen to what the problem is and do not get into an argument with them (they pay your bills). Make sure you give them a solution.
3. Be helpful – even if there’s no immediate profit in it.
4. Always helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable The more you know the easier it will be to answer their questions.
5.Take the extra step – For instance, if someone walks into your store and asks you to help them find something, don’t just say, “It’s in Aisle 3”. Lead the customer to the item. Better yet, wait and see if he has questions about it, or further needs. Whatever the extra step may be, if you want to provide good customer service, take it. They may not say so to you, but people notice when people make an extra effort and will tell other people.
These are just some tips I would like to share with all because they might come in handy when you own your business.

  1. I really like this blog because i used to work as a customer service associate and I know how it is. I do not do customer service anymore as I used because I moved to a different position where I don’t deal a lot with customers. However, I learned the importance of giving a great customer service. Customers will appreciate and will make them comeback to the store. That’s truth about bad days, I have bad days also and I always try to have a smile in my face because I know that my face is my representation of me and store.
Also, working for customer service is not that easy as it seems; it is always saying yes to the customer. Rude customers exist, customer who won’t understand the policy or want to do what they want. One thing that I always will remember from my past experienced as a customer service associate was that the customer is always right. Try to help as much as you can, and yeah do extra and surely you will see that help them.

  2. Great post. In business, if the customer is wrong they are always right. Without the customer you would not be in business. Many businesses need to go back and review the concepts about what does it mean to offer good customer service. There was a time in my life when I supported my son and myself selling shoes. When the customer wanted to try on a pair of shoes, I made it a point to personally put the shoes on their feet. My customers appreciated this and became my personal customers. They knew I worked on commission and would not buy from anyone else. The customer is everything in business.

  3. Great customer service is guaranteed to bring back customers. I love going to a place that values each and every customer. It just makes the atmosphere so smooth and relaxing. I hate how some places act like they care about their customers when you can clearly tell that they could care less about them. They just act that way so the money keeps flowing in.

Although i believe it is critical to have good customer service, it is also important to focus on other things. High prices, for example, have caused me to chose other competitors even when a specific place had good customer service. Prices need to be set competitively or else the competition will steal all your customers.

  4. Great job on the list to providing great customer service. I have been in the business over 20 years and it is so true … GOOD or BAD customer service can make or break a business.

  5. These are very good tips for a good customer service. i think though that smile is something that can be misinterpreted. There are people that consider smile as something insulting. Unfortunately, smile is used everywhere without consideration to person’s view on that. I can give many examples but i will start with the news. News hosts are talking about different topics but sometimes they smile while talking about something very serious.
Therefore, i would like to add to another tip. Customer service has to be very personalized taking into account cultural differences, age, gender, and sex. If every business provides a personalized service, we will have more happy customers.
